This happened few months back when I went camping to Bhandardara (Hill station) a weekend spot close to Mumbai. But since weekends tend to be crowded, I decided to go on a Monday. I wanted to get some peace and quiet so I travelled alone in my car. Once I reached there, I bribed the cops to let me into the camp and park my car near the lake. Finally, I parked the car near the bank of the lake and set up my tent and sat down on my stool and was enjoying the evening breeze. Then I decided take a walk around and went wandering around and suddenly, felt the urge to go to toilet. When I walked around for some more time, I saw a light at a distance. I walked toward the light and found that it was a small house and there was toilet outside it. So I went to the house and called out to see if anyone was there. Then a beautiful looking lady in her early 30s came out. She told her name was Barkha. Arun: Hello, I’m Arun. I came here for camping and wanted to use the toilet. Could I please use your toilet? Barkha: Hello sir, yes, you can use it. Arun: Thank you. Thanking her, I went to finish my business and then came out. Arun: Thank you. Should I pay anything? Barkha: No, it’s alright. When I was about to leave, she asked me something. Barkha: Sir, how many of you have come? Arun: Just me. Why? Barkha: Oh.. Actually, we provide food for the guests who come here on the weekends. We have contact with agents who bring us groups. I thought you were with a group. Arun: Oh, that’s nice, I was planning to cook myself. Barkha: Sir, if you don’t mind, could you buy the food from us? It will be a great help to us. Arun: Ok, fine. Then I’ll get it from you. How much is it? Barkha: For how many days are you here, sir? Arun: One or two days, depends on how much there is to explore. Barkha: Ok sir, I’ll prepare your food for today and tomorrow and afterwards, you can let me know if it’s needed. Arun: That sounds good. Barkha: So you eat veg or non-veg food? Arun: I eat chicken. Barkha: Ok, I’ll make chicken and give then. Arun: Very good, I’ll come by night then. Barkha: No sir, you don’t have to come. I’ll come there and serve you. Arun: That’s great. Barkha: Do you need anything now, sir? Arun: Could I get a cup of tea, please? Barkha: Sure sir, just sit here sir. Saying that, she asked me to step into her small house and sit on a plastic chair. She went to make tea in the kitchen which was a small inward corner of the room. As she sat down to make tea, I started observing her. She was milky white, fleshy at the right places, brown hair dyed with henna. If she wasn’t living in this small house and in the shabby dress, anyone would have mistaken her for some model or film star! As I kept staring at her beauty, she caught me staring and adjusted herself. To distract myself, I started talking to her. Arun: Where is everybody else? Barkha: Sir, I live with just my husband. He actually went to the town to get the groceries for the next week. We have a lot of bookings this coming week. Arun: Oh, that’s nice. So, how many people are coming? Barkha: This time, we have around 60 people. Arun: Oh, so many people. Can you both manage alone? Barkha: We have a helper who comes only on the weekends when we have booking. Arun: That’s good. So, tell me which are the good places to see and enjoy here. Barkha: You can put your tent near the lake. Arun: Yeah, I put up my tent there already. Barkha: Then there is Firefly forest and boating and a jungle trail as well. Arun: Oh yeah, I heard about the Firefly and that’s the reason I came here. Barkha: Yeah, it’s very beautiful at night. Arun: Can you show me the way to that place? Barkha: Sure sir, I’ll show you. I’ll take you there after dinner. Arun: Thanks. After that, I left to my tent and started a bonfire and put on some music and was enjoying the chill weather and dozed off. After about 2 hours, I was woken up by a sweet voice, it was Barkha. Barkha: Sir, please get up. Arun: Sorry I dozed off, the weather was very pleasant. Barkha: Yes sir, it’s good for sleeping. Arun: Yeah, you’re lucky to live in such a beautiful place. I wish I could live here as well. Barkha: Here sir, have your dinner. Barkha had made rice dal roti and chicken gravy. It was the tastiest chicken I ever had. Arun: Barkha, the food was so good..I loved it. It’s the best chicken I ever had. Barkha: Thank you, sir. Arun: I wish I could eat this every day. Barkha: Hehehe, then teach your wife to make it. Arun: I’m not married Barkha. Barkha: Oh, I’m sorry, but why sir? Arun: Well, I didn’t find a girl who is beautiful and cooks like you. Barkha: Sir, don’t make fun of me! Arun: I’m not joking Barkha, I’m serious. We sat there in awkward silence for sometime not knowing what else to talk. Then after sometime, she broke the silence. Barkha: Sir, shall we go to see the fireflies? Arun: Oh yes. Then we started walking towards the forest and she led me to the place where there are the most fireflies. It was a beautiful sight. As we were enjoying the scenery, it started to rain. We started running back to the tent as it was closer. While running back, she suddenly fell down and hurt her knees but she still limped back slowly and by the time we reached the tent, the rain intensified and we were drenched. As the tent was set up near the lake, all the water started flowing to the lake so I told her to sit in the car and started removing the tent so that it didn’t flow away and put it away in the trunk. And then, I got into the car. I took a towel from my bag and gave it to her. Arun: Here, dry yourself. Barkha: Thank you sir, but what about you? Arun: I’ll dry myself after you.
