It Wasn't Meant To Happen
Me & my sister Aditi : Aditi is 5 years younger than me. We both grew up together in Delhi. Our mom has raised us together very lovingly after they both separated. I was just 11 at that time. Our mother never let feel his absence. Three of were always very close. We lived together until the time I moved out for studies and job later. I was 18 when I left Aditi & mom. Mom decided to send Aditi to a hostel. Aditi, I & mom lived separately for a long time. I wanted mom & Aditi to move with me once I got a job but unfortunately, mom died a few months later after I got my first job. Aditi was still in last year of college when mom died. She was still 19 and I felt responsible for her. She thought very differently, having lived in a hostel for about 11 years, she wanted to live independently and took up a job immediately after her college, making me realize that I don’t have to worry about her. We were close but we started growing apart after mom was gone. She was the common thread between us. We reached a point when we had no contact each other. Me & Shikha: Shikha joined my team and it was love at first sight. She was beautiful. We spent just a few months together and decided to get married. It was a small function.Everything happened so fast that I did not even inform Aditi about it.Later casually emailed her about. She replied,”Congratulations”. That’s about it. It’s like she did not care. My behavior was similar. We were one happy couple who had not forgotten everyone and were living happily. But it wasn’t meant to last forever, after only about a year, Shikha wanted a divorce. Though I loved her, she wanted to separate. She felt it was wrong decision to get married. It was just an attraction and we were two very different people. We separated. Met Aditi after 5 years again: Time passed. After the initial phase of depression & crying. However, I had still not dated anyone in 3 years. Shikha had broken my heart. I thought I could never fall in love again.Richa, one of my friend who was good friends with both Shikha and me always kept trying to push me to find someone again. We always used to have this conversation and I used to tell her not to. This one fine weekend, she started the conversation again and wanted to meet her friend Aditi who has recently moved to the city. She was all praises for her,how beautiful & nice she was. She thought she would be perfect for me. While I knew that this conversation will again end in me going back to my house and sleeping early on a Saturday night, she had other plans. We were in this pub and she told me that she will be here in 30 mins. I was bit angry with her first but then agreed to meet Aditi. I could never imagine that Richa would set me up with my sister Aditi. Then Aditi arrived & Richa introduced us, “here’s your date Raghav, hope you guys have a great time.” Richa then said something in Aditi’s ear and left. We stared at each other for the longest time ever. We trying to gauge her emotions as they continued with this awkward encounter. Aditi spoke first,” I didn’t know it was going to be you Raghu?” and I replied, ” Neither did I think Aditi is my Aditi.” She took a deep breath, “We haven’t spoken in years, how are you & where is your wife” I chuckled, “We separated”. We were silent for some time. And she spoke first again, “Raghu, I never thought we would meet like this, in fact, I never thought I will meet you ever” She called me Raghu since childhood. Picked up from mom. She continued, “should we continue our date” I laughed and ordered some food. We had our meal and talked for a long time and caught on last few years. It seems she was still single. & had just moved to town a few months back. In that moment I felt I was meeting Aditi for the first time. She was nothing like 12 years old when I left my home and nothing like 20 years old that I last met. Aditi was perfect in that moment. She was wearing this red jumpsuit and hair tied perfectly. Looked stunning. We finished our meals and as we were leaving, she said, ” I had a very good time today.” I decide to drop her to her place. We reached her single room flat. Was surprised to see her living like this. And felt a bit guilty of not keeping whereabouts of my sister. As if she could read my face, she said, “its ok, I am happy, Mumbai is bit expensive to be renting a big house. ” It was nice she said again, ” Have been meeting psycho man lately, I am thankful it is you” “I am sorry, I did not keep in touch”, I said. She smiled, ” Neither did I, I thought you were happy in your life, sorry to hear about your divorce. Must have been a bitch to leave a nice man like you” “You think I am nice, ” I said. She looked straight in my eyes. “Yes you are” and she held my hands. It was the best time I had, in fact, it was the only time I was on a date since Shikha left. It was weird but I felt more good about meeting someone than seeing my sister. Next thing, I said was about her was, ” you look great Aditi, what are the chances that you date a beautiful woman after many years and it turns out to be your sister” “Even, I haven’t dated anyone in a long time” Aditi paused and then said, “It was a good date Raghu” We looked at each other and drew closer to each other. She was still holding my hand. I kissed her on the forehead and hugged her. She whispered, “that feels so good, that you are either going to have to stop right now, or continue it for about 30 more minutes.” I hadn’t hugged such a perfect body in a long time. She was perfect for a 25-year-old woman. Her breast was pressed against mine. Her hair smelled so nice. I didn’t stop. I hugged Aditi tighter. I bent down to kiss her forehead again but Aditi tipped her head and kiss landed softly on her full thick red lips. As I broke the quick kiss, there was a stirring in my groin. Something that had not happened in a long time. This time Aditi initiated the kiss. I am taller than her so he raised her heels to reach me.
